How to choose hosting for multiple WordPress sites
For 10 to 20 smaller sites, shared hosting with unlimited domains is enough. I don't recommend your own server (VPS) without experience; you have to look after everything yourself. Ask the host these questions:
What to ask
- Site isolation: does each site run separately? If one gets hacked (with WordPress, usually through an outdated plugin), the infection must not reach the others. One FTP account for all sites is a risk.
- Backups: automatic daily backups and the option to restore a single site, not just everything at once.
- PHP version per site: an older site then doesn't hold back updates for the rest.
- Free SSL (Let's Encrypt) for all domains and one-click WordPress installs.
- Support in your language, ideally at weekends too.
More important than the host
With multiple sites, maintenance decides: regular updates, backups you've actually tried restoring, and uptime monitoring that alerts you before a customer does. Without that, even the best hosting won't help.
